August proved to to be a sad but wonderful month. The first part of August, Dick's dad called us and said that he really wanted to see us very badly. We knew that he was sliding physically, so we asked the mission president if it was all right to go home to see Dad. He was very kind about it and allowed us to go. On August 7th, we flew into Salt Lake, and Bill (Dick's brother) picked us up from the airport and took us to Logan. We knew that we needed to spend some much needed time with Dad. For two days, we visited him on and off several times a day. He was glad to see us, but we could tell that he was struggling. He hadn't been eating for a couple of weeks, although he had been drinking a little liquid. He felt sick to his stomach. He was so sweet and pleasant even though he wasn't feeling well. We took several pictures with him. We were able to spend one evening all together with him and give him a farewell blessing. That was a sweet spiritual experience. The world lost a great man August 20th, 2014. Bill and Dedee took such great care of him during the past four years. We love them and give them our thanks and our love.

We did get in a little birthday party for Ali before we left to go back to San Diego. She turned 15 on August 12th.
Jenny and Lyla and Milly went to Logan and we were able to spend some time with Bill's girls.
Jenny and Lyla and Erin and Pyper.
Annie with her new baby, Flora. We enjoyed visiting with these girls.
Little did we know that in a short week and a half, Grandpa would be gone. After our first visit, we flew back to San Diego. Then, two weeks later, we flew home again for the funeral. Matt, Billy and Amy flew in by themselves for the funeral, which was held on August 28th. What a special time we had together. It was good to have all our family together again. We truly missed Stacie (Matt's wife), Scott Kimball (our Amy's husband), and Amy (Billy's wife) and wished they could have come, but it wasn't the best timing for any of them.
Whenever we get together, we always have the famous "kid's" photo. This was taken at the Orem Cemetery.
Here are all eleven of Grandpa's grandchildren. They haven't been all together for many years. Clancy flew in from China. We were so glad they could all be together.
This was the viewing the night before the funeral.
These were the pall bearers. Jason May got cut off. I'm really sorry about that. From left to right: Jason May (Erin's husband) --cut off, Jed Colledge (Annie's husband), Scott Dalebout, Clancy Dalebout, Ryan Wood (Jenny's husband), Matthew Dalebout, Scott Morton (Amanda's husband) and Billy Dalebout.
Our kids put flowers on the casket for them and their families.

After all the funeral activities were over, our kids scattered, everyone except Billy. Dick and I were able to spend a couple of of nice days with Billy. We enjoyed the parade in Midway for Swiss Days and then took a trip to the Unitahs, one of our favorite places. This is taken at Mirror Lake.

August was very busy, but we truly enjoyed being together with our great family. Oh, how we love them and are grateful for the good people they are and the good families they have. We are truly blessed. I thought a lot about how Grandpa Dalebout was feeling as he saw his family all together. I truly think he and Mom were smiling in Heaven. Grandpa often bore his testimony to our family at our general conference get-togethers and expressed his desire to have us all together in Heaven. That is our wish as well.

Hi Evie,
I haven't looked in on your blog for a long time! Thanks for this sweet post about Grandpa D. We will miss him too! So glad Matt could be there with all of you - and that you and Dick could be there! It's hard to be so far away from home when these kinds of events occur. We love you both and miss you. We look forward to some kind of a visit one of these days! Keep doing your good work in San Diego.
